Your home is a huge investment, and you can probably remember the day that all the paperwork was signed, you got the keys and the home you’d been working so hard for was finally yours!  This is the feeling of pride that all homeowners should have, not just the first time they walk through the door, but every day that follows it, too. Believe it or not, the right flooring can help bring that feeling back, especially if you’ve been getting tired of seeing the same old floor, day after day.  You can do Houston carpet, but here we will discuss vinyl flooring.

It doesn’t matter if you’ve been living there for decades, or just bought a fixer upper, the floor is the first thing you see when you walk through the door. If you’ve been in the same house for some years, you’ve seen fashions come and go, but what about the style of your flooring? If you’ve just bought a starter home, you may have gotten a great deal, but are less than thrilled about the 1970’s shag carpeting – who can blame you?!

But homes are expensive, both to purchase and for daily maintenance, so you may have been holding back on updating your flooring because you think the cost may be prohibitive.  Think again. While some flooring, like marble or real hardwood, may be more money than you’d like to spend right now, vinyl flooring is an excellent alternative that will fit into even the most stringent budget. Vinyl flooring, usually associated with your grandmother’s kitchen or the scuffed black and white tiling of 1950’s diners, is back and more resilient, affordable, and far better looking than it used to be.  If you’re looking to give your home a more modern twist, without breaking the bank, vinyl is your best choice.

Even if you’re not worried about cost, the vast array of styles, ease of installation, and excellent durability make vinyl a great choice for a quick style makeover. When installed over the right subflooring, vinyl is long-lasting, resistant to stains, scratches, dents and dings. Let’s look at the top three reasons you should consider vinyl flooring if you’re ready to transform your home interior into something modern, and breathe new life into your outdated interior.

You Have a Wide Variety to Choose From

Vinyl flooring doesn’t have to look like, well, vinyl flooring.  With so many advances in technology, you can find vinyl flooring that perfectly mimics the most expensive flooring like slate, stone, marble, wood, travertine, leather, tweeds, metals and more.

Not only is it printed to look like these surfaces, but you can also generally choose to keep the naturally smooth surface of the vinyl, or get one that’s textured like the object it’s meant to look like, increasing the believability of it.  For example, if you choose vinyl flooring that looks like planks of hardwood, the ‘grain’ may be slightly textured to feel like wood when you’re walking across the floor in bare feet.  This also makes it look like real wood, so when guests come over to visit they may comment on how beautiful your new hardwood floors look!

Kids, Pets, and Large Parties are no Problem

If you’ve had carpeting in your house for any number of years, you know it can take a beating. Houston carpet is wonderful for plushness, and vinyl flooring is great for hig-traffic areas.  Add small children and household pets to this, and you’ll quickly see food stains, juice spills, dirt, mud…you name it!  Today’s vinyl flooring is created specifically to stand up to this type of traffic; it’s thicker, more durable, and special coatings form a strong barrier against spills and prevent staining.  After all, it may be vinyl flooring, but it’s still an investment.

Maintenance is also a no problem – forget the days of vacuuming or hiring a professional cleaner to come out to remove stains and smells, vinyl flooring only requires an occasional sweeping to take care of dust or dirt, and a quick mopping every once in awhile to remove any sticky juice spills. In addition, you can purchase special cleaners to treat your vinyl floors with that will add that extra protection against fading and staining, as well keeping your vinyl floors looking newer, longer.

If You’re a Do-It-Yourselfer, Vinyl Floors are Made Especially for You!

When it comes to flooring, professional installation is always recommended, but if you’re ready to take the challenge on yourself, vinyl flooring is the one to do it with.  There are three ways that vinyl flooring is cut: sheets, tiles, and planks.  They can each have either an inlaid or a printed pattern, and come in all different sizes and to best fit your room.

Sheets will give you the most seamless looking installation when used in small areas, such as a bathroom or mudroom because they come in large, 6 or 12 feet, pieces while tiles are better suited to mimicking marble or stone flooring.  Planks, of course, are cut to look like the wooden planks they’re imitating, and when properly installed make it look like you just spend a fortune on new wood flooring, but without the maintenance and upkeep.

If you’ve wanted to make your home look more up-to-date, without the expense, you can see how vinyl flooring as a budget and family-friendly choice! You use it as a contrast, for that ultra-contemporary look.
